Custom Furniture Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated: What We Need From You
A lot of people love the idea of custom furniture, but hesitate because they assume the process will be complicated, expensive, or overwhelming.
It really doesn’t have to be.
You do not need blueprints. You do not need to know furniture terminology. You do not need to walk into our showroom knowing the exact wood species, finish color, dimensions, or design.
You just need to show us what you’re trying to accomplish.
At Amish Home Furniture, we work with Amish craftsmen who can build furniture around your room, your style, and your needs. The easiest way to get started is to bring us a little information.
Bring Us a Picture of Your Room
This is one of the most helpful things you can do.
Take a few pictures of the room where the furniture will go. Wide-angle pictures are best because they help us understand the space, nearby furniture, flooring, wall colors, windows, and overall style of your home.
Don’t worry about making the room perfect first. We’re looking at the space and trying to understand what will work in it.
A picture often tells us more in 30 seconds than a long explanation ever could.
Bring Some Basic Measurements
They do not have to be perfect.
Measure the wall, opening, or general area where you want the furniture to go.
If you’re shopping for a dining table, measure the room. If you need a bedroom set, measure the available wall space around the bed. For a custom cabinet, entertainment center, desk, bar, or similar piece, measure the maximum width, height, and depth you have available.
We can help with the rest.
Show Us What You Like
If you have a picture from Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, a magazine, another furniture store, or even a photo of something you saw years ago, bring it with you.
You can also show us something from our own showroom or website.
You don’t have to find the exact piece you want.
Sometimes the most useful thing you can say is:
“I like this shape, but I want it in a different wood.”
“I like this table, but I need it longer.”
“I want something like this, but more rustic.”
That gives us a starting point.
Tell Us What Isn’t Working
Sometimes it’s easier to describe the problem than the furniture.
Maybe your current dining table is too small.
Maybe your nightstands do not have enough storage.
Maybe you have an awkward wall where standard furniture never seems to fit.
Maybe you need a bed that sits higher off the floor.
Maybe you need a desk designed around your work setup.
Maybe your cabin or mountain home has a unique layout and everything you find online is either too big, too small, or just not right.
Tell us the problem.
That is often where the custom process begins.
Give Us an Idea of Your Style
You do not need to know the official name of your style.
You can simply tell us:
Rustic.
Modern mountain.
Farmhouse.
Clean and simple.
Heavy and substantial.
Natural-looking.
Dark wood.
Light wood.
Live edge.
Smooth and refined.
We can help turn those ideas into actual furniture choices.
Custom Doesn’t Always Mean Starting From Scratch
A lot of custom furniture starts with an existing piece you already like.
Maybe the table needs to be longer.
Maybe you want drawers added.
Maybe you want a different headboard.
Maybe a cabinet needs to be taller.
Maybe you love the design but want it built in hickory, walnut, maple, or another wood.
Maybe you want a different finish, hardware, edge profile, leg style, or configuration.
Those changes can turn a piece you almost love into something that actually works for your home.
You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Before You Visit
This is probably the most important part.
You are not expected to walk into our showroom with every decision already made.
That is part of what we are here to help with.
Bring us a picture.
Bring measurements if you have them.
Show us something you like.
Tell us what room you’re working on.
Tell us what isn’t working now.
From there, we can begin narrowing things down.
With more than a thousand furniture options, multiple wood species, finishes, sizes, styles, and custom possibilities, trying to figure everything out completely on your own can become overwhelming.
A short conversation can make the process much easier.
Start With Your Room, Not the Furniture
If you’re thinking about custom furniture, take a few pictures of your room before you visit.
Measure the space if you can.
Then bring your phone into our Blairsville or Ellijay showroom and show us what you’re working with.
You do not need to know exactly what you want.
That’s what we’re here to help you figure out.
