Why We Ask What You’re Shopping For When You Walk Into Our Store
Why We Ask What You’re Shopping For When You Walk Into Our Store
If you have ever walked into a furniture store and immediately heard, “What are you shopping for today?” your first instinct may have been to say, “Just looking.”
We understand. Nobody wants to feel pressured the second they walk through the door.
But when we ask what you are shopping for at Amish Home Furniture, we are not trying to rush you into buying something. We are trying to figure out how we can actually help.
Our Blairsville and Ellijay showrooms are filled with Amish-made bedroom furniture, dining tables, chairs, living room furniture, solid wood furniture, rustic cabin furniture, farmhouse furniture, modern mountain furniture, outdoor poly furniture, office furniture, and custom furniture options. There is a lot to see, and in many cases, the piece you are looking for may not be sitting directly in front of you in the exact size, wood, color, or configuration you need.
That is why a short conversation can make such a big difference.
“Just Looking” Is Completely Fine
There is absolutely nothing wrong with walking through our showroom and simply looking around. Furniture is something you often need to see, touch, sit in, open, and experience in person.
You may be trying to figure out what style you like. You may have just purchased a home in North Georgia. You may be furnishing a cabin in Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Ellijay, Hiawassee, or one of the surrounding mountain communities. You may not even know what you are looking for yet.
That is okay.
Take your time. Walk around. Look at the wood. Open the drawers. Sit in the chairs. Try the recliners. Look at the different bedroom sets, dining tables, cabinets, and outdoor furniture.
But if we ask what you are working on, we are asking for a reason. The more we understand about your space, the better we can help.
We May Have Options You Cannot See on the Showroom Floor
One of the biggest differences between shopping for Amish furniture and shopping at a typical mass-market furniture store is that what you see on the showroom floor is often just one version of what is available.
A solid wood dining table may be available in several lengths, widths, heights, wood species, stains, edge profiles, bases, and leg styles. A bedroom set may be available in king, queen, or other sizes with different headboards, storage options, finishes, hardware, and matching pieces. A cabinet may be able to be built taller, shorter, wider, or narrower.
That means a piece you walk past because it is not quite right may actually be available in a version that works perfectly for your home.
If we know what you are shopping for, we can show you those options. Otherwise, you may never know they exist.
Tell Us About the Room You Are Furnishing
You do not need to know furniture terminology. You do not need to know the name of the wood. You do not need to know exactly what size you need.
Sometimes the easiest thing you can do is tell us about the room.
You might say, “We just bought a cabin and need a dining table,” or “We need a bedroom set for our new mountain home.” Maybe your dining room is small, you have a long wall you cannot seem to fill, or you want something rustic without going too rustic.
You might want a cleaner modern mountain look, solid wood furniture that will last, or something custom made for an unusual space.
Those simple details immediately give us somewhere to start.
Bring Us a Picture of Your Room
One of the best things you can bring furniture shopping is already in your pocket: your phone.
Before visiting our Blairsville or Ellijay showroom, take a few pictures of the room you are furnishing. Show us the flooring, the walls, the furniture you already own, the windows, the fireplace, the doors, and anything else that affects the layout.
If you have measurements, even better.
A few photos and some basic dimensions can help us understand your home much faster than trying to describe everything from memory.
This is especially helpful when you are shopping for custom furniture, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture, cabinets, entertainment centers, desks, or furniture for an unusual space.
Tell Us What Problem You Are Trying to Solve
Sometimes the best way to shop for furniture is not to start with the furniture at all. Start with the problem.
Maybe your current dining table is too small when family visits. Maybe your bedroom does not have enough storage. Maybe every dresser you find is too deep for the room. Maybe you need a table that seats six people every day but can expand when guests come over.
Maybe you have a large cabin and standard furniture looks too small in the room. Maybe your current furniture does not match the style of your new mountain home. Maybe you are tired of replacing inexpensive furniture and want real solid wood furniture that can last for years.
Tell us what is not working.
Once we understand the problem, it becomes much easier to help you find the right solution.
You Do Not Have to Know Your Exact Style
North Georgia homes come in a huge variety of styles. Some customers want traditional rustic cabin furniture. Others want farmhouse furniture. Some want reclaimed wood, hickory, or natural live-edge pieces. Others want something cleaner and more contemporary.
Modern mountain furniture has also become very popular because it combines natural wood and mountain character with cleaner lines and a less traditional cabin look.
You do not have to know exactly what category your home falls into.
You can simply say, “I like this, but I want it less rustic,” or “I want something warmer,” or “I like natural wood but do not want anything too dark.”
You might tell us you want modern furniture that still feels like it belongs in the mountains, or a cabin look without making the whole house feel like a lodge.
Those comments are extremely helpful.
Custom Amish Furniture Does Not Have to Mean Starting From Scratch
A lot of people hear the words “custom furniture” and immediately imagine a complicated design process.
It does not have to be.
Custom Amish furniture often starts with an existing design. You may like a dining table but need it longer. You may like a dresser but want different hardware. You may like a bed but want it built in another wood. You may want a different stain, a different height, or a cabinet adjusted to fit a specific wall.
Instead of designing everything from the ground up, sometimes we simply take a piece you already like and make a few changes so it fits your home better.
That is another reason we ask questions. We need to understand what you want to change.
Shopping for Furniture Should Be a Conversation
There is a major difference between walking into a furniture showroom and browsing furniture online.
Online, you are usually looking at one photograph, one size, and one configuration at a time.
Inside our showroom, you can see the construction, feel the wood, compare styles, test chairs, look at stain samples, compare woods, and ask questions about what can be changed.
That conversation matters.
Sometimes it means showing you a completely different piece. Sometimes it means explaining that the table you like can be ordered in another size. Sometimes it means showing you a different wood or finish.
And sometimes it means telling you that you do not need a custom piece at all because something already available will work perfectly.
Furniture for North Georgia Homes Is Not One-Size-Fits-All
Homes in North Georgia are different.
Some are full-time residences. Some are mountain cabins. Some are vacation homes. Some have huge open living areas. Others have smaller rooms, unusual walls, lofts, steep stairs, or challenging layouts.
That is why we do not assume the same furniture will work for every customer.
A large reclaimed wood dining table may look incredible in one Blue Ridge cabin and completely overwhelm another home. A massive rustic bedroom set may be perfect for a large master bedroom but too heavy for a smaller space. A cleaner solid wood design may make more sense in a newer modern mountain home.
We want to understand the home before we start recommending the furniture.
If You See Something You Like, Ask Us About It
Do not assume the piece on the showroom floor is the only version available.
Ask us if it can be bigger or smaller. Ask if it comes in another wood. Ask if the stain can be changed. Ask if there are matching pieces. Ask if the hardware can be changed, if another chair works with the table, or if something similar can be custom built.
You may be surprised by how many options are available with Amish-made furniture.
We Are Asking Because We Want to Save You Time
Walking through a large furniture showroom without any direction can become overwhelming.
If you tell us you need a dining table for eight people, we can immediately narrow the search. If you tell us you are furnishing a rustic cabin, we can point you toward certain woods and collections. If you tell us you want modern mountain furniture, we can steer you away from pieces that are probably too rustic for your taste.
If you tell us you have a 60-inch wall, we can stop showing you 72-inch cabinets.
That is not pressure. That is simply better service.
What Should You Bring When You Visit?
You really do not need much.
If possible, bring a few pictures of the room, some basic measurements, photos of furniture or styles you like, and pictures of anything you are trying to match.
Most importantly, tell us what you are trying to accomplish.
That is enough to get started.
